Firewood Rack Covers
When to Use Them
Firewood has always been used to bring beautiful and crackling fires to provide enjoyment
and warmth at a very low cost. However, firewood has been known to frustrate some in situations when a smoky fire is produced from wood, which
does not burn, or a messy pile of wood that begins to collect and attract all kinds of bugs and insects. Fortunately, however, there is a
solution – a high quality firewood rack and firewood rack covers.
Seasoning firewood simply refers to the process of allowing the sun along with natural air to flow so that it can dry out the wood. Through
seasoning firewood the fires which will be produced would be a lot cleaner and more efficient, resulting in more heat and less smoke in your
fireplace. Firewood, which has been freshly cut has a higher moisture content and it is this moisture which produces a lot of smoke and makes
firewood harder to burn. The heat which is produced by the fire should be used first to evaporate all the water before the actual wood fibers
burn. This usually results in a dead or smoky fire which is simply put, horrible.
To avoid this, you could instead let sunshine and natural air to flow through the firewood, effectively removing the unnecessary moisture.
Using a good firewood rack would be able to help in keeping your firewood and kindling off the ground to permit the natural flow of air through
them. You need to keep them away from the ground, as the ground has a lot of moisture, which the firewood could absorb. Also, elevating the
firewood off the ground would shun away the possibility of bus and other crawlers from living in your woodpile. It is recommended would need to
elevate your firewood several inches.
Additionally, since firewood which has been freshly cut has a lot of moisture, you need to season them first and then you could use a firewood
rack cover to make sure that rain and snow will not be reaching your firewood and kindling. The best solution would be a top-only firewood rack
cover, as they would be able to keep the wood’s top portion dry as ventilation is still permitted through the rest of your firewood. However,
full firewood rack covers would be more efficient for areas that experience extreme weather conditions.
